About this Recovery Home

Lakeside - 1400 Lakeside Avenue is a men's sober living home in Henrico, Virginia, in the Henrico County community the street is named for, immediately north of the Richmond city line. It holds VARR accreditation and sits on the state's register of certified recovery residences at Level of Support 2, operated by Journey House.

A Men's Sober House on Lakeside Avenue

Lakeside is one of the older established communities in Henrico County, a grid of modest houses and small commercial blocks strung along the avenue between Bryan Park and Dumbarton. The address serves men in recovery, and the position is the strongest thing about it. Lakeside Avenue carries bus service south into Richmond, the Staples Mill and Parham corridors sit a short distance west with their warehouse and retail employment, and the shops and pharmacies along the avenue itself are walkable. A resident without a car is not stranded here.

Level Two Certified Recovery Housing

A Level 2 residence in Virginia is monitored: rules in writing, oversight on site, peer accountability doing the daily work, and clinical care left with providers the resident chooses and keeps. Certification through the Virginia Association of Recovery Residences adds the parts a resident can verify from outside. Fees and house rules are disclosed before move-in. Relapse and discharge are governed by a written policy. A complaint can be escalated past the operator to the certifying body. None of that guarantees a good fit, and all of it creates a record.

Where This Henrico Sober House Sits Relative to Richmond

The city line runs a few blocks to the south, and it matters less to a resident than the map suggests. Richmond is an independent city and serves as the seat of the county that surrounds it without belonging to it, which means the courthouses, the state behavioral health offices, VCU Health and the transit hub are all a short ride away in a jurisdiction this house is not part of. Living on the Henrico side buys quieter streets and county services. Working, treatment and court appearances mostly happen on the city side.

A Sober Living Operator Running More Than One Level of Support

Journey House operates eight residences across Henrico County and Richmond, seven of which the state register carries. On the register, Oakmont is certified at Level 1, the peer-run tier, and the remaining six registered houses, this one among them, are at Level 2, monitored. The operator also publishes supervised Level 3 housing, which the August register does not show for it. Even across the two registered tiers, that range is the operational difference between a single house and a network: a resident can move from a monitored address like this one to a peer-run house, keeping the same organization, the same outpatient provider and the same job through the step.

Applying to This Recovery Home

Placement runs through Journey House and its recovery center, which supplies peer support, recovery coaching, life skills guidance, job readiness work and referrals into treatment alongside the beds. Before signing, ask what the weekly fee covers, whether a house manager lives on site, how bedrooms are assigned, what the written relapse policy says, and whether medication for opioid use disorder is accepted. Certification obliges an answer to each of those in writing.
