About this Recovery Home

Paradise Recovery House is a certified men's sober house at 612 Gage Street in Bennington, Vermont, a shire town of Bennington County. It is an eight-bed residence in two four-bedroom units with a house manager's suite attached, managed by the Turning Point Center of Bennington County, and it opened in spring 2025 in a fully renovated building that was formerly the Twin Maples Nursing Home.

Two Units in One Men's Sober House

The building is split for a reason. Unit one holds four beds and is for men new in recovery, and the house manager lives in that unit. Unit two is for men who have established their own recovery path or have been in the house sixty to ninety days successfully. Both units have full kitchens with dining areas, a laundry room and living rooms. A resident moves from the more supervised half to the more independent half without changing address, keeping his job, his coach and his housemates while the level of structure drops.

The First Certified Recovery Home in Bennington County

Before this house, there was no recovery residence south of Rutland, and men leaving treatment in southwestern Vermont had to move an hour or more from their families or go without. The project took two years and cost roughly $2.5 million, funded through a Vermont Community Development Program grant sub-granted to a local housing developer. Certification came through the Vermont Alliance for Recovery Residences, which obliges the house to a code of ethics, written disclosure of fees and rules before move-in, a written relapse and discharge policy and an annual onsite inspection.

Structure and the Membership Agreement

Every member reads, reviews and signs a membership agreement that sets out the rules, regulations and expectations of living in the house. The house manager oversees both units with help from recovery coaches attached to the recovery center, so accountability comes from someone in the building and someone outside it. Members stay between ninety days and one year.

A Gage Street Address Within Walking Distance of Downtown

The house sits in a residential area within walking distance of downtown Bennington, which answers the question most men in early recovery are actually asking about an address: whether work, a meeting, a pharmacy and an appointment are reachable on foot. Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, the recovery center itself and the county courthouse are all in the town, and Route 7 runs north toward Rutland.

Demand for Recovery Housing in Southwestern Vermont

The operator has said it consistently carries a waiting list and hopes to open a second Bennington house. Someone applying should ask about current wait times early, because in this part of the state the alternatives are an hour away.
