About this Recovery House

WeCo Cottage Recovery Residence is a six bed women's sober living home in Columbia, South Carolina, in Richland County. Operated by Lutheran Services Carolinas and certified by the South Carolina Alliance for Recovery Residences, it is a collegiate recovery residence for students committed to sobriety. The address is not published, and applications are taken online.

A Collegiate Women's Sober House in Columbia

Six beds, all for women, all for students. That combination is rare in South Carolina and it changes the daily rhythm of the house. Quiet hours have to work around exams. Housemates understand a class schedule. The isolation a student in recovery feels on a campus organized around drinking is answered by living with five other people carrying the same problem.

Six Phases of Structure in a Recovery Residence

Residents move through a six phase program covering education and employment planning, life skills training and technology-supported accountability, with peer mentorship running throughout. Multiple recovery pathways are accommodated, including twelve step, SMART Recovery and faith-based approaches, so a resident is not required to adopt a framework that does not fit her.

Recovery Housing Beside Columbia's Campuses

Columbia is the state capital, the seat of Richland County and the largest concentration of higher education in South Carolina. The University of South Carolina alone enrolls tens of thousands of students downtown, with Benedict, Allen, Columbia College and Midlands Technical College nearby. A student in recovery here can reach class, an outpatient appointment, a meeting and a job on the same bus line.

Medication and Certification at This Sober Living Home

The residence accepts some forms of medication-assisted treatment, so a woman on a prescribed medication should confirm hers before applying. Certification under Act 160 of 2024 obliges the house to disclose fees and rules in writing before move-in, keep a written relapse and discharge policy, and answer complaints reviewed outside the household.
