About this Recovery Home
Bridgeway Recovery Services is a coed recovery residence in Salem, Oregon, the seat of Marion County and the state capital, operated by an MHACBO-accredited provider.
Residential Recovery Housing in Salem
People live on site here while receiving treatment. Bridgeway Community Health runs medical detox, residential and outpatient substance use treatment, mental health therapy, primary medical care and problem gambling services from Salem, and the residential side of that continuum is housing in the plain sense: residents sleep, eat and spend their days at the address while the clinical program runs around them. A licensed residential program is still a recovery residence when people live there, and for someone leaving detox it is often the only realistic next address.
What an Integrated Recovery Home Changes
Housing and treatment under one organization removes the handoff that people most often fall through. In the open market model, a resident detoxes at one place, moves into a sober house run by a second, and attends outpatient groups run by a third, and each transition is a chance to disappear. Bridgeway holds detox, residential treatment, outpatient care and primary medical care inside a single organization in one city, so a resident's prescriber, counselor and address stay connected. Someone with a co-occurring mental health condition or an untreated medical problem benefits most, because those are the cases that a standalone sober house cannot absorb.
Accreditation and Oregon Sober Living Standards
Accreditation of recovery housing in Oregon is voluntary and runs through the Mental Health & Addiction Certification Board of Oregon, the state's affiliate of the National Alliance for Recovery Residences. It is awarded to providers, so it covers a company and every house it runs, and only about two dozen Oregon organizations hold it. A provider carrying it has committed in writing to a code of ethics, to disclosing fees and rules before someone moves in, to a documented relapse and discharge policy, and to a complaint process that a resident can use without going through the house. In a state with no licensure for recovery residences, that is the strongest public credential available.
Salem Recovery Housing and Marion County
Salem is the Marion County seat, the state capital and the largest city in the mid-Willamette Valley, and it straddles the Marion and Polk county line at the Willamette River. The concentration that follows is useful to someone rebuilding a routine. Marion County Circuit Court and its treatment court dockets, Salem Health, the county health department, the state agencies that administer Oregon's behavioral health system and Chemeketa Community College all sit inside the city. Cherriots runs local bus service across it. People coming out of treatment in Woodburn, Silverton, Dallas, Stayton or Independence generally find Salem is the nearest place where a job, an appointment and a court obligation can all be reached in one day.
Applying to This Salem Recovery Residence
The street address of the residence is not published, and admission runs through the provider's intake, which screens for the level of care a person actually needs. The questions worth asking at intake are the ones that decide fit: what the residential program costs and what insurance or Oregon Health Plan coverage applies, how long a stay typically runs, whether medication for opioid use disorder is continued on site, whether a co-occurring mental health diagnosis is treated in the same program, and what the discharge plan looks like on the day someone leaves.
