The Woodstock House Coed Recovery Home

Se Woodstock Boulevard, Portland, Oregon, 97266

About this Recovery Home

The Woodstock House is a coed recovery residence in Portland, Oregon, in Multnomah County, owned and operated by Quest Center for Integrative Health. It is the only one of the organization's three transitional houses that Quest runs itself.

A Portland Recovery Residence for People in Outpatient Treatment

Residence here is tied to treatment. Quest Center houses people who are engaged in its outpatient substance use disorder program, so a bed comes with a clinical relationship already in place: a counselor, a treatment plan and a schedule that exists whether or not a resident feels like keeping it. That is a different model from open market sober living, where housing and treatment are bought separately and can fall out of alignment the moment one of them ends. Stays run about six months.

Who This Sober Living Home Prioritizes

The house prioritizes LGBTQIA2S+ and BIPOC residents. Recovery housing is not neutral ground for either group, and people who have been the only queer or the only Black resident in a house usually describe the experience as one more thing to manage on top of staying sober. A residence built around those populations removes that particular load. Quest Center has worked with LGBTQIA2S+ and HIV positive communities in Portland since 1989, and the housing sits inside that history.

Structure and Expectations at This Recovery Home

Quest publishes what living here requires:

  • A toxicology analysis free of drugs and alcohol.
  • Active engagement in Quest Center outpatient substance use treatment.
  • Attendance at house meetings.
  • Weekly case management.
  • Participation in recovery activities.
  • Completion of Rent Well classes.

The Rent Well requirement is the one that says what the program is for. It is a tenant education course that produces a certificate landlords in Oregon recognize, and building it into the housing means the six months are aimed at a lease at the end, not just at a clean drug screen.

What MHACBO Accreditation Establishes for This Provider

The house is operated by an MHACBO-accredited provider. Accreditation through the Mental Health & Addiction Certification Board of Oregon is voluntary in Oregon and is granted to organizations against the standards of the National Alliance for Recovery Residences. A provider that holds it has agreed to a published code of ethics, written disclosure of fees and rules before move-in, a documented relapse and discharge policy, and a complaint process that reaches outside the house. In a state with no licensure for recovery residences, that record is most of what a prospective resident can check in advance.

The Woodstock Neighborhood and Southeast Portland Recovery Housing

Woodstock is a settled southeast Portland neighborhood built around a commercial strip of groceries, a library branch, restaurants and a farmers market, with Reed College at its northern edge and frequent bus service running west toward the central city. Quest Center's own clinic sits a short ride north in the Creston-Kenilworth area, so a resident can reach treatment appointments, case management and groups without a car. The exact street address of the house is not published, and placement runs through Quest Center's behavioral health intake.
