About this Sober House

Hope is Alive Recovery Home H4 is a men's sober house in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, in Oklahoma County, with eleven beds and Level 2 certification from the Oklahoma Alliance for Recovery Resources. It is one of six men's houses the ministry runs in the city.

An Eleven-Bed Men's Sober House in North Oklahoma City

Eleven beds puts this house in the middle of the range Hope is Alive runs, and the size has a specific effect on a resident's day. There are enough men in the building that somebody is always awake, always coming off a shift, always further along than you are. Most bedrooms hold two, so a resident has a roommate and a shared responsibility for the room. The house sits on the north side of Oklahoma City, between Britton Road and the Quail Springs district, in a part of the county with established neighborhoods and a large retail and medical employment base close by.

Meetings, Sponsorship and the First Thirty Days of Sober Living

The first month is prescribed. Thirty twelve-step meetings in thirty days, a sponsor inside the first six months, and the twelve steps worked with that sponsor. Alongside the outside meetings, the house runs in-house sessions several nights a week, and Oklahoma City has a dense enough meeting calendar that a resident is never short of a room to sit in. The ministry also asks for full-time work, school or steady volunteering within three weeks of moving in. That combination fills a resident's calendar deliberately, on the reasoning that unstructured hours are where early recovery goes wrong.

What OKARR Certification Establishes About This Recovery Residence

The Oklahoma Alliance for Recovery Resources certifies this house at Level 2 and is the state's sole recognized certifier of recovery residences. Certification is a record a family can check from another state. It means the residence agreed in writing to a code of ethics, discloses fees and rules before move-in, keeps a written relapse and discharge policy, and accepts outside complaint review. Level 2 describes the model in use here: peer-managed housing with a manager, structured daily expectations, and clinical care from providers elsewhere in the city. Oklahoma makes none of that compulsory.

Graduates Running the Recovery Homes

Hope is Alive is led by people who completed its program, and that shows up in how the houses are run. A resident's coach, and often the staff member handling his intake, has lived in one of these houses under the same rules. The ministry counts 291 graduates and 2,460 children reunited with sober parents across its network. For a man deciding whether eighteen months is worth committing to, the fact that the people asking for that commitment made it themselves carries more weight than any brochure.

Recovery Housing in Oklahoma County

Oklahoma City is the state capital and the seat of Oklahoma County, and it holds roughly twenty-five certified recovery residences alongside the courts, the state agencies and the outpatient providers a resident needs to reach. Interstates 35, 40 and 44 and the Kilpatrick Turnpike ring the metro, so a job on the far side of the city is a commute and not a barrier. A man leaving treatment in a smaller Oklahoma town usually finds that the capital is the nearest address within reach of work, meetings and appointments at the same time.
