Paying for sober living in Oklahoma
Sober living across Oklahoma averages roughly $150 a week. Oxford House works on an equal share of what the home actually costs, not a set rent, so treat that as the market rather than this address. Median gross rent in Oklahoma, for comparison, is $1,014 a month. Residents short of the first payment often go through Oklahoma Recovery Housing Program voucher and OKARR SOR-funded Request for Housing Assistance or similar state funding. That money is administered by Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.
How an Oxford House is run
Oxford Houses are run by the people who live in them, supported entirely by the residents' own contributions and free of alcohol and drugs. New members are chosen by a house vote, so an opening is not the same thing as an acceptance.
Certification and oversight in Oklahoma
Oklahoma does not treat recovery residences as licensed facilities. The state's NARR affiliate, Oklahoma Alliance for Recovery Resources (OKARR), certifies homes that choose to apply. Oxford Houses are chartered by Oxford House, Inc. rather than certified by a state affiliate, so this home will not usually appear on a state certification list. See the state certified-residence list for homes that carry it. People in recovery are a protected class under the Fair Housing Act and under Oklahoma Fair Housing Law (25 Oklahoma Statutes Section 1452).
