About this Sober House

Heather's Hope is a women's recovery residence in Comanche, Oklahoma, in Stephens County. Twenty-two beds, OKARR Certified Level 2, and the housing program of Christian Helping Hands of Comanche Inc., a registered 501(c)(3) family resource center serving south-central Oklahoma.

A Women's Sober House in a Small Oklahoma Town

Comanche is a small town in Stephens County, and a twenty-two bed certified residence in a place that size is a significant piece of the region's recovery infrastructure. Duncan, the county seat, sits a short drive north on US 81, and Lawton and the Wichita Mountains lie to the west. Certified recovery housing outside Oklahoma City and Tulsa is thin on the ground, so a woman leaving treatment or incarceration in south-central Oklahoma who wants to stay near family often has very few options that are not a two-hour drive away.

Transitional Housing and Long-Term Family Homes

The program is built in two stages. Transitional housing takes women reentering society after incarceration, rehabilitation or homelessness and gives them a stable place to begin. Beyond that, the organization offers affordable long-term family homes for women who have been reunited with their children and need continued support while they become self-sufficient. That second stage is rare in recovery housing and it addresses the point where most placements fail, which is the move-out.

Support Beyond This Recovery Home

Heather's Hope sits inside the Christian Helping Hands Family Resource Center, so residents reach the parent organization's services directly: parenting classes, resource navigation and case support, budgeting and healthy living classes, group support, referrals to professionals, and children's programs and activities. The same nonprofit runs a food pantry, a clothes closet and an education and resources center in the county. For a woman rebuilding with children, having the housing and the family services under one roof removes several separate applications.

What OKARR Level 2 Certification Establishes for This Sober Living Home

The Oklahoma Alliance for Recovery Resources is the state's sole certifier of recovery residences and the affiliate of the National Alliance for Recovery Residences. Level 2 is the monitored tier: a house manager, written house rules, peer accountability and clinical services from outside providers. Certification commits the residence to a code of ethics, to written disclosure of fees and rules before move-in, to a written relapse and discharge policy, and to a complaint process outside the house. Oklahoma requires none of it.

Applying to This Stephens County Recovery Residence

Applications are handled by the operator through its own written application. No street address is published for the housing, which is standard for certified residences in Oklahoma. Worth settling before moving in: what the fee is and what it covers, how the transition from the shorter-term housing to a long-term family home works, whether children can join at that stage, and what the house expects of residents during the day.
