Guiding Light House is a women's sober living home on South Main Street in Lima, Ohio, in Allen County. Ohio Recovery Housing certifies the residence at the Supervised level, and it is operated by Truth for Youth, a Lima nonprofit that has run the house since 2009 under the name Guiding Light Ministries.

Guiding Light House serves women only, and it takes a broader population than many single-purpose sober houses. Residents include women recovering from substance abuse alongside women rebuilding after domestic violence, homelessness, or a mental health crisis, all living under one roof with up to five women and their children at a time. Live-in house staff run the day-to-day structure, and the home includes a life skills classroom used for programming beyond a standard curfew and chore chart.

Ohio Recovery Housing certifies residences at three levels: Peer-Run, Managed, and Supervised. Supervised sits at the top of that ladder and describes a house with the highest staffing presence of the three, suited to a population that includes women in active crisis alongside women in recovery. Ohio Recovery Housing certification also commits the house to a published code of ethics, disclosed fees and rules, and a complaint process outside the building itself.

A Broader Mission Than a Single-Purpose Sober House

Guiding Light House grew out of a maternity home and still carries that history: pregnant women and new mothers remain part of who it serves, alongside women whose path in is substance use recovery. That combination means a resident is rarely the only person in the house working through addiction specifically, and the program's life skills classroom and staffing model are built for a wider range of needs than a standard recovery residence carries.

Lima is the seat of Allen County and the largest city in the region, with the courts, outpatient providers, and social service agencies a woman coming out of treatment or an unstable living situation is likely to need. Admission goes through Truth for Youth in Lima. Because the house serves overlapping populations, intake looks at more than a single qualifying condition, and a woman applying should expect questions about her full situation, not only her recovery status, before a bed is offered.
