About this Recovery House
In Albany, New York, the Treatment, Recovery, Education and Empowerment (T.R.E.E.) House for Women and Children is a women's recovery residence in Albany County, on McCarty Avenue in the city's South End. Sixteen certified beds are set aside for women and for women with children, and the program is licensed by the New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports. It is operated by the Addictions Care Center of Albany, a private nonprofit that has worked in the Capital Region since 1967.
A Women's Recovery Home That Takes Children Too
The Addictions Care Center of Albany runs services for men, for women, and for women with children, and this residence is the last of those three. A mother who would otherwise have to place a child before entering treatment does not have to here. That single policy decides whether a substantial number of women enter residential care at all, and it is the reason a sixteen-bed program in Albany draws referrals from well beyond the city.
Sixteen Beds and Round-the-Clock Sober Living Staffing
The operator staffs its residential programs twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year. In a sixteen-bed house that ratio produces something close to continuous attention. On-site services across the residential programs include counseling, education, employment training, life-skills training and case management, so a resident is not commuting across the city for the core of her treatment.
What OASAS Certification Establishes in New York Recovery Housing
Recovery residences in New York are not required to hold any credential. Residential treatment is regulated, and all of this operator's programs run under the state agency that certifies addiction services. That means inspection, regulated staffing and review of how people are admitted, treated and discharged. The distinction between a state treatment license and recovery residence certification confuses almost everyone who encounters it for the first time, and the two systems are set out in a guide to sober house certification in New York.
Albany County Recovery Housing in the South End
McCarty Avenue sits in Albany's South End, below downtown and close to I-787 and the Port of Albany. Albany is the state capital and the seat of Albany County, which concentrates the courts, the department of social services, Albany Medical Center and the region's outpatient providers inside one small city. CDTA buses connect the South End to downtown, to the medical corridor and across the river to Rensselaer County. A mother here can reach a family court date, a pediatric appointment and a benefits interview without a car.
Where This Sober House Sits in the Operator's Continuum
The Addictions Care Center of Albany runs four residential levels: stabilization, rehabilitation, reintegration and transitional housing. A woman entering at stabilization can move through the operator's rehabilitation and reintegration residences and into the community without leaving the organization, keeping the same case management and the same outpatient clinic. That continuity is the practical argument for choosing a provider that runs the whole ladder.
