About this Recovery House
Stabilization & Rehabilitation for Men is a men's recovery residence in Albany, New York, in Albany County, on McCarty Avenue in the city's South End. It is operated by the Addictions Care Center of Albany, a private nonprofit provider working in the Capital Region since 1967, and it is certified by the New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports.
The First Two Levels of a Men's Sober House Stay
Stabilization is where a man arrives. The operator describes it as the level that works on motivation, medication management, cravings, family relationships and readiness for work or school. Rehabilitation follows and shifts the emphasis to substance use education, the adoption of recovery skills and the beginning of employment or educational planning, with medication management continuing throughout. Running the two together means the hardest weeks and the first constructive ones happen in the same building.
Around-the-Clock Staffing in This Recovery Home
Residential programs here are staffed twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year. On-site services include counseling, education, employment training, life-skills training and case management. The overnight coverage is the part people underestimate. Cravings, medical problems and crises do not observe business hours, and a residence with staff awake at three in the morning handles a bad night differently from one that locks up at ten.
Medication Management in a New York Recovery Residence
Medication management is named explicitly in both the stabilization and rehabilitation levels this operator runs. Acceptance of medication for opioid use disorder is not universal in recovery housing, and a man on a prescribed medication who loses his housing over it can lose the prescription along with it. A program that treats medication as part of clinical care settles that question before anyone moves in, and it is the first thing worth asking on an intake call.
Albany's South End and County Recovery Housing
McCarty Avenue sits in Albany's South End below the downtown core, near I-787 and served by CDTA routes into the city center and out to the medical corridor. Albany is the capital of New York State and the seat of Albany County, so the courts, the state agencies, the department of social services, Albany Medical Center and the region's outpatient clinics are compressed into a small area. A man without a car can hold a probation appointment, a group and a benefits interview in one day.
Moving Up the Operator's Recovery Homes
The Addictions Care Center of Albany runs four residential levels across Albany, Rensselaer and Warren counties. After stabilization and rehabilitation, men step into reintegration on Morton Avenue in Albany or at the operator's Troy residence, and later into transitional housing at Reilly House. Each move loosens the structure by a measured amount, and none of them requires starting over with a new provider.
