About this Recovery House

STEP2 Lighthouse Campus is a women's recovery residence in Reno, Nevada, the seat of Washoe County. It stands on Safe Harbor Way and is the transitional housing arm of STEP2, a nonprofit that has treated women with substance use disorder in northern Nevada since 1986. It is listed with Behavioral Health Certifications for Excellence in Nevada at the transitional housing service level.

A Women's Recovery Home Where Children Can Live Too

This is the fact that separates the Lighthouse Campus from every other recovery residence in northern Nevada. A woman who completes STEP2's residential program can move into transitional housing here and bring her children with her. Roughly seventy percent of the women who come to STEP2 for treatment have minor children, and for most of them the alternative to family housing is choosing between a recovery bed and their kids. The campus removes that choice, which is why the organization frames its mission as breaking the cycle of addiction and violence in families and not simply as treating individuals.

Twenty-Five Cottages on a Reno Sober Living Campus

The Lighthouse Campus consists of twenty-five fully furnished, recently remodeled cottages in one, two and three bedroom configurations. A cottage is a different proposition from a shared bedroom in a converted house. A mother gets her own front door, her own kitchen and space that scales to the size of her family, while remaining inside a supervised recovery community with staff and other residents in the same recovery on the same grounds.

Where This Sober Living Home Sits in a Longer Program

Transitional housing at the Lighthouse Campus is the second stage of a three-stage program. Before it, women live in dormitory-style rooms on the residential campus and receive thirty hours of therapeutic services a week alongside supervised social and creative activities. After it, an optional outpatient program offers continuing therapy and support as a woman moves back into the community. A resident of the Lighthouse cottages is therefore neither at the start of her recovery nor cut loose at the end of it, and the transition out is designed rather than improvised.

Forty Years of Women's Recovery Housing in Northern Nevada

STEP2 opened in 1986 and marked forty years in 2026. More than 5,000 women have come through the program in that time, and over 170 accessed treatment in 2025 alone. The organization is a registered 501(c)(3) and publishes its audited financials and its Form 990. Trauma-informed care is central to how it works, and it treats all adult women, including pregnant women.

Recovery Housing for Women in Reno and Washoe County

Reno is the county seat and the center of northern Nevada's courts, hospitals, schools and employment, and the Safe Harbor Way campus sits in the northeast of the city with the rest of that within reach. Women's recovery housing that accepts children is scarce across the whole state, so the campus draws from well beyond Washoe County. For a woman in Carson City, Fallon, Fernley or the rural counties who is trying to complete treatment without surrendering custody, this is frequently the nearest address that makes both possible at once.
