About this Recovery House

Western House is a men's sober living home in Springfield, Missouri, operated by New Beginning Sanctuary. Springfield is the seat of Greene County and the largest city in the Ozarks, which puts this recovery residence inside the region's biggest concentration of jobs, clinics and courts.

A Men's Sober House Run by a Springfield Nonprofit

New Beginning Sanctuary has housed people in recovery since 2013 and runs this house as part of a single-gender portfolio. Men live with men, one set of expectations covers the household, and the bathrooms, house meetings and common rooms belong to one population. The organization keeps leadership present in its homes around the clock, so a resident arriving straight from treatment or jail is not left to invent a daily routine alone.

What MCRSP Accreditation Establishes for a Recovery Residence

The house is accredited through the Missouri Coalition of Recovery Support Providers, the state's affiliate of the National Alliance for Recovery Residences. Missouri has no statute requiring a sober house to be accredited, so an operator that carries it has volunteered for a standard nobody forced on it. Accreditation binds a residence to a written code of ethics, to disclosing fees and rules before anyone signs, to a written relapse and discharge policy, and to a complaint process that runs outside the house. For a family calling from another state, that is the difference between a recovery residence with a record and a landlord renting beds.

The Weekly Cost of This Sober Living Home

New Beginning Sanctuary publishes the same schedule for all of its Springfield houses: a $200 enrollment fee, the first week at $125, and $125 a week after that. Nothing is refundable, payment is due before the weekly house meeting, and residents three weeks behind lose the bed. Publishing the number in advance settles the question most people ask first and makes the budget conversation with a case manager a short one.

Greene County Recovery Housing and the Ozarks Hub

Springfield holds the services that people rebuilding a life actually need in one place: CoxHealth and Mercy hospitals, the Greene County courthouse, Missouri State University, Ozarks Technical Community College, and the City Utilities bus system that reaches all of them. Someone leaving treatment in a smaller Ozarks town usually finds that Greene County recovery housing is the nearest address within reach of a job, a probation appointment and an outpatient provider on the same day. The street address for this house is not published, and placement runs through the operator.
