About this Sober House
Awaken 514 Recovery Sober Living Home is a coed sober house in West Monroe, Louisiana, in Ouachita Parish, on North 7th Street. It houses men and women in early recovery on the west bank of the Ouachita River.
A Coed Sober House in West Monroe
Men and women live in the house together, which is uncommon in Louisiana recovery housing and worth understanding before applying. One set of house rules covers everyone, the common areas are shared, and the visitor and relationship policies do more work than they would in a single gender home. For a couple in recovery, or for someone who simply does not want a dormitory of twelve men, a coed house is often the only option in a market this size.
Recovery Housing West of the Ouachita River
North 7th Street runs through the older residential grid of West Monroe, close to the commercial spine of the city and a short distance from the bridges into Monroe. The two cities work as one place. Monroe, the parish seat, holds the courthouse, the hospitals, the University of Louisiana at Monroe and most of the outpatient treatment in northeast Louisiana, while West Monroe carries a large share of the retail, warehouse and industrial jobs that someone in the first year of recovery can actually get. Living on the west bank puts both inside reach.
Louisiana Certification and This Recovery Residence
There is no recovery residence license in Louisiana, no state registry and no required inspection. Certification through the Louisiana Association of Recovery Residences is voluntary. A prospective resident therefore evaluates a sober house the way a tenant evaluates a landlord, by asking for documents: the fee schedule, the house rules, the discharge policy. A house that produces all three without hesitation is telling you something real about how it operates.
What to Ask This West Monroe Sober Living Home
Applications go directly to the house. Ask what the weekly fee is and what it includes, how many people sleep in a bedroom, whether men and women are separated by floor or by unit, whether anyone is on site overnight, and how the house handles a resident who relapses. Ask about medication for opioid use disorder as well, because acceptance is not universal in sober living and a refusal can cost a resident their treatment along with their bed.
