About this Sober House
Bisou's Haven Sober Living is a women's recovery residence in Terrytown, Louisiana, in Jefferson Parish on the West Bank of greater New Orleans. It exists to give women in early recovery from substance use a safe and supportive place to practice sobriety, and it houses women only.
A Women's Sober House on the West Bank
Terrytown is an unincorporated community immediately south of Gretna, the parish seat, and it sits inside the West Bank suburbs of greater New Orleans. The location has a particular value for a woman in early recovery. It is close enough to New Orleans that outpatient providers, meetings and employment across the river are reachable, and far enough out that the neighborhoods, rents and pace are suburban. Terry Parkway carries the local commercial strip and Jefferson Transit routes, and the Crescent City Connection puts downtown New Orleans a short drive north. The operator does not publish a street address, and placement runs through Bisou's Haven directly.
Why a Women-Only Recovery Residence Matters
The house serves women, and the restriction settles the mechanics of the household before anyone arrives. Bathrooms, bedrooms and common space belong to one population. House conversations happen without a woman weighing what she says in front of men she just met. A significant share of women entering recovery housing are also leaving abusive situations, and for them a single-gender house is a condition of moving in at all.
What to Establish Before Moving Into This Sober House
Because the operator publishes little, the intake call carries the weight. The questions that matter are the same ones certification would oblige an answer to: what the weekly or monthly fee covers and what it does not, whether a house manager lives on site, how bedrooms are assigned, what happens after a relapse, whether children can visit or stay, and whether residents on prescribed medication for opioid use disorder are accepted. A house that answers all six plainly is telling you how it operates.
Certification and Recovery Housing in Louisiana
Louisiana licenses clinical treatment providers and does not license recovery residences. Certification through the Louisiana Association of Recovery Residences is voluntary, the association says openly that it is not a licensing authority, and no public directory of certified Louisiana homes exists. That means absence from a list proves nothing in this state, in either direction, and the only reliable check is what an operator will put in writing.
Women's Recovery Homes in Jefferson Parish
Jefferson Parish wraps around New Orleans on both banks of the Mississippi, and Gretna is the parish seat for the West Bank side. Women's recovery housing across greater New Orleans is thinner than men's, and the West Bank has less of it than the east bank does. For a woman who has family, a job or a court obligation in Gretna, Marrero or Harvey, a house in Terrytown means keeping all of that instead of crossing the river to find a bed. Louisiana's Department of Health lists the licensed outpatient providers serving the parish.
Our Extended Mission
At Bisou's Haven we believe in helping others. Even if those others are not people. Several of our houses have rescued, and now care for, a dog that was adopted from the local animal shelter. Each member of the house will have an opportunity to love and care for one of these fuzzy buddies in need of a forever home.
