What sober living costs in Louisiana, and how residents pay for it
A sober living bed in Louisiana usually costs about $155 a week. An equal share of the home's actual costs is what Oxford House members pay, so the number above describes the market rather than this house. Against that, the median gross rent in Louisiana is $1,064 a month. Help with the share is available through state programmes including Permanent Supportive Housing and SSVF and HUD-VASH. Louisiana Department of Health, Office of Behavioral Health is the state body to start with.
How an Oxford House is run
Oxford Houses are self-governing households, funded by an equal share from each resident and alcohol- and drug-free by charter. New members are approved by the existing membership, so a reported vacancy is a starting point, not a reservation.
How recovery housing is regulated in Louisiana
There is no state licence for recovery residences in Louisiana. An Oxford House answers to Oxford House, Inc. rather than to a state certifying body, so it rarely appears on state registers. Protection runs from the federal Fair Housing Act and Louisiana Fair Housing Law (Louisiana Revised Statutes Section 51:2606).
