Paying for sober living in Louisiana
Sober living across Louisiana averages roughly $155 a week. Because Oxford House members share the home's real expenses instead of paying rent, this house's share may sit above or below that; only the residents can say. Against that, the median gross rent in Louisiana is $1,064 a month. For those who cannot pay, Permanent Supportive Housing and SSVF and HUD-VASH are among the state-funded routes used. Funding of this kind runs through Louisiana Department of Health, Office of Behavioral Health.
How the Oxford House model works
Oxford Houses are managed day to day by their residents, funded by an equal share from each resident and free of alcohol and drugs. New members are interviewed and admitted by the people already living there, so an opening is not the same thing as an acceptance.
How recovery housing is regulated in Louisiana
There is no state licence for recovery residences in Louisiana. Oxford House charters its own homes, so an Oxford House is usually not on a state affiliate's certified register. Residents are protected by the federal Fair Housing Act and by Louisiana Fair Housing Law (Louisiana Revised Statutes Section 51:2606).
