Founder Reba Harris started Gilead House in 1998, and the organization now runs on a 90-day residential program built specifically for women, many of whom arrive from incarceration or homelessness alongside substance use disorder. Sixteen full-time staff support the program, and the house graduates roughly 50 women a year, with about 72 percent completing the program or on track to finish.

Treatment Built Around Reentry and Homelessness

Gilead House does not limit itself to women already stable enough to hold a job or housing before arriving. The program is built for women facing homelessness or reentry from jail or prison alongside addiction, and its case management addresses both the addiction and the practical barriers, from housing to employment, that follow someone out of incarceration.

A 90-Day Residential Program

Residents complete a structured 90-day stay, with the discipline of that written timeline pushing the treatment plan and case management to line up around a defined endpoint. That structure gives families and referring courts a program length they can plan around.
