How the Oxford House model works

Oxford Houses function as autonomous shared residences within a broader national model. At the house level, members govern themselves, elect officers, share costs, and decide how ordinary household responsibilities will be handled. Maintaining sobriety is a basic condition of residence. This approach is intended to provide a stable peer environment in which people in recovery participate directly in running their home.

Contacting the house and requesting an interview

The Oxford House interview is conducted through the individual residence, not through a centralized guarantee of placement. Existing members evaluate applicants and decide who joins the household. Confirm the listed interview schedule, then ask about the equal expense share, move-in funds, house responsibilities, recovery-related expectations, and how quickly a decision is typically communicated.
