Sober living costs and rent help in Hawaii

In Hawaii, a bed in sober living commonly runs about $235 a week. Oxford Houses work differently: members divide the home's real costs between them rather than paying a fixed rent, so ask the house what its share comes to. By way of comparison, Hawaii's median gross rent is $1,971 monthly. Hawaii Department of Health, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division - Clean and Sober is the state agency that oversees this funding.

How an Oxford House is run

Oxford Houses are run by their members rather than by staff, self-funding and alcohol- and drug-free by charter. New members are voted in by those already in the home, so calling the house is the only way to learn what is actually free.

Recovery residence standards and oversight in Hawaii

Recovery housing in Hawaii operates without a state licence. This home is chartered by Oxford House, Inc. rather than certified by the state affiliate, so it will not normally be on the certified list.
