Paying for sober living in Florida

Sober living in Florida typically runs around $205 a week. Members of an Oxford House split the real cost of running the home, so this house's share is its own — the residents are the only ones who can quote it. By way of comparison, Florida's median gross rent is $1,669 monthly. Florida Department of Children and Families is the state body to start with.

The Oxford House model and the resident interview

Oxford Houses are resident-governed homes, paid for by the members themselves and free of alcohol and drugs. New members are voted in by the people already living there, so an opening is not the same thing as an acceptance.

How recovery housing is regulated in Florida

Recovery residences are not state-licensed in Florida. Florida Association of Recovery Residences (FARR), the state's NARR affiliate, offers voluntary certification. This home is chartered by Oxford House, Inc. rather than certified by the state affiliate, so it will not normally be on the certified list. See the state certified-residence list for homes that carry it. Protection runs from the federal Fair Housing Act and Florida Fair Housing Law (Florida Statutes Section 760.23).
