Sober living costs and rent help in Florida

The going rate for sober living in Florida is around $205 a week. Members of an Oxford House split the real cost of running the home, so this house's share is its own — the residents are the only ones who can quote it. For scale, renting privately in Florida has a median gross rent of $1,669 a month. Florida Department of Children and Families administers that funding at state level.

The Oxford House model and the resident interview

Oxford Houses are resident-governed homes, funded by an equal share from each resident and free of alcohol and drugs. New members are chosen by the people already living there, so calling the house is the only way to learn what is actually free.

How recovery housing is regulated in Florida

Florida has no licensing regime for recovery housing. The state's NARR affiliate, Florida Association of Recovery Residences (FARR), certifies homes that choose to apply. An Oxford House holds a charter from Oxford House, Inc. instead of state affiliate certification, which is why it is generally absent from state certified-home lists. A directory of certified residences is maintained for the state. Florida Fair Housing Law (Florida Statutes Section 760.23) applies alongside the federal Fair Housing Act.
