- Stay drug free and alcohol free.
- Become an active member of a twelve-step fellowship, with regular meetings, a sponsor and a home group.
- Find full-time work within two weeks of moving in, unless legitimately on disability.
- Perform weekly community service in place of work if on disability.
- Keep up with rent and with financial obligations outside the house.
- Take a share of chores and house functions.
Two weeks is a short runway, and it tells a prospective resident exactly what The Grey House is built for. Men arrive able to work, and everything else in the house assumes a day that starts early. Someone who needs clinical supervision on site or a long medical stabilization is a poor fit for that pace.
How This Recovery Home Handles Clinical Care
Serenity Properties encourages residents to attend aftercare counseling at outpatient facilities, and the clinical side of recovery stays outside the house. That division is standard in recovery housing and it is the first thing to understand before moving in. The house supplies the address, the household and the accountability. Therapy, prescribing and any medication for opioid use disorder come from providers a resident keeps on his own, which means the relationships he builds during a stay follow him out of it. The Grey House is one of three men's houses under the Serenity Properties name. The Red House is on South Bedford Street in Georgetown, a short walk away, and the Walnut Street House is in Bridgeville, in the western half of Sussex County. A man who needs a change of household without changing operators has two other addresses to move between, and the expectations do not shift from one to the next.
What Certification Would Add to a Georgetown Sober House
Delaware names the First State Alliance of Recovery Residences as the state's certifying body for recovery residences, and its register is public. Certification commits a house to a written code of ethics, disclosure of fees and rules before anyone signs, a documented relapse and discharge policy, and a complaint route outside the household.
