About this Sober House

Stearns Street House is a men's sober house on Stearns Street in Bristol, Connecticut, in Hartford County. All-In Recovery Homes operates it, and it is the operator's only residence in the western half of the county.

A Men's Sober House on Stearns Street

This is a men's household in a residential Bristol neighborhood. One gender means one set of house rules, shared space written for one population, and a first week spent on work and appointments instead of on navigating a mixed building. Bristol is a compact city, so a resident here can generally reach a job, a meeting and a store on foot or on a short bus ride. The house provides the address and the structure. Counseling, prescribers and meetings come from the community around it.

Bristol Recovery Housing in Western Hartford County

Bristol sits in the western part of Hartford County, on the Pequabuck River, between New Britain and the Litchfield hills. Bristol Health runs the city hospital. ESPN has its headquarters here, and the city's older manufacturing base still supplies a meaningful share of entry-level shift work. Routes 6 and 72 connect the city to New Britain and the Hartford suburbs, and Bristol's Forestville and downtown neighborhoods hold most of the housing stock a resident would actually be able to afford after leaving a sober house. Recovery housing in this part of the county is scarce, which makes an address here useful to people whose families and jobs are already on this side of Hartford.

What a State Listing Does and Does Not Establish for a Sober House

Connecticut's Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services lists supported recovery housing providers, and this house is on that roster. A listing establishes that the state knows the operator and refers residents to it. It is not a certification of the residence, and Connecticut does not license sober houses through any single office. Certification is voluntary and comes from CTARR, the state alliance of recovery residences, which is the record that binds a house to published ethics, written disclosures and an outside complaint process. Knowing the difference is the difference between checking a house and assuming.

Structure and Medication in This Recovery Housing

All-In Recovery Homes states that it supports medication-assisted treatment. A resident stabilized on buprenorphine or methadone keeps his prescriber and keeps his bed. The operator is equally clear that it is not a treatment provider, which is a useful thing for an applicant to hear plainly. Anyone who needs clinical supervision on site is a poor fit for this house, and anyone who needs a stable address, housemates in the same position and a predictable weekly rhythm is a good one.

Where Else This Sober Living Operator Works

Seven All-In houses operate across Connecticut. Three are men's residences in New Britain, on Park Place, Steele Street and Omo Street. One is a men's house on Pearl Street in Middletown. One is a women's house on Valley Street in Willimantic. A Bristol resident who later needs to be closer to Hartford or the eastern part of the state is talking to the same operator about it.
