About this Sober House

New Freedom House is a men's sober living home on Navajo Drive in Prescott, Arizona, in Yavapai County. It houses young men, typically in their late teens through early thirties, working through early recovery from alcohol and drug addiction.

A Sober House for Young Men on Navajo Drive

New Freedom House restricts admission to men, and most residents arrive in their twenties, coming directly out of detox, residential treatment or a court-ordered program. Navajo Drive sits in a residential neighborhood on Prescott's east side, within reach of the outpatient providers and meetings clustered around the city center.

A Brotherhood-Based Recovery Home

The house runs on a peer support model residents describe as a brotherhood: men who arrived earlier in their recovery mentor the ones who arrive after them. Attendance at in-house and outside twelve-step meetings is mandatory, and residents are expected to follow a written set of house rules from the day they move in. Many residents pair the house with a state-licensed outpatient treatment program while they live there, using New Freedom House for the housing and structure and an outside provider for clinical care.

What AzRHA Certification and AZDHS Licensing Establish in Arizona

Arizona runs two separate credentials for sober living homes. The Arizona Department of Health Services licenses sober living homes under state law, and the Arizona Recovery Housing Association certifies residences that agree to its code of ethics on a voluntary basis. Certification is not required to operate, so its absence from a listing says nothing about whether a house is well run. It simply means there is one fewer public record to check before moving in, which is worth asking about directly.

Recovery Housing in Prescott and Yavapai County

Prescott is the seat of Yavapai County and one of the more established recovery communities in the state, with a long-running twelve-step scene and a cluster of outpatient providers downtown. That density is part of why sober living has concentrated in the city's residential neighborhoods, and it gives a resident at New Freedom House options for meetings and outpatient care within a short drive of Navajo Drive.

More on Our Sober House Our sober house program was designed by a set of standards adopted by our founding members who have found long-term freedom from alcoholism and addiction. These sober house men have gone on to repair their relationships with their families, start a family of their own, became employable, start their own business', start a college education, finish a college education, tour the country with their band, find out how good life can get and then get it,  travel the world, and most importantly they devote their time and attention to helping our new members find the same freedom.
