About this Sober House
Step One Recovery Housing is a sober living home in Phoenix, Arizona, in Maricopa County, serving men and women rebuilding a daily routine after treatment.
Sober Living for Men and Women on North 11th Avenue
This Phoenix sober house takes both men and women, which is less common than a single-gender house and usually means separate living spaces or separate intake tracks under one roof. North 11th Avenue sits in a residential stretch of central Phoenix, within reach of Valley Metro bus service that connects the corridor to downtown and to the broader Phoenix job market, which matters before a resident has a car of their own.
Structure Built Around Accountability and Peer Support
The program describes itself around a specific model: accountability, peer support and active participation in recovery through meeting attendance, sponsorship and house rules. That framing puts the emphasis on what a resident does each week rather than on amenities, which is typical of transitional housing aimed at people fresh out of treatment or incarceration and rebuilding structure from the ground up.
Certification Is Voluntary in Arizona
Arizona does not require a sober living home to hold certification from the Arizona Recovery Housing Association, the state's voluntary NARR affiliate. A house without it is not necessarily less legitimate than one with it, since the credential is opt-in and covers a written code of ethics, fee disclosure and an outside complaint process rather than a legal right to operate. Arizona's separate licensing track, run through the Arizona Department of Health Services, is the state's actual legal requirement for operating a sober living home, and the two credentials answer different questions.
Recovery Housing in Phoenix and Maricopa County
Phoenix is the state capital and the seat of Maricopa County, and a huge share of Arizona's treatment providers, courts and social services sit inside the city limits. A resident at a Phoenix sober house is rarely more than a short bus ride from an outpatient appointment, a probation office or a job interview, which is the practical reason recovery housing concentrates here more than anywhere else in the state.
Reaching Step One Recovery Housing in Phoenix
Applications go directly to Step One Recovery Housing. Worth asking up front: how bedrooms are assigned between the men's and women's sides of the house, what the weekly program actually requires beyond meeting attendance, and how a relapse is handled. A house built around accountability should have straightforward answers to all three.
More On the Sober House
Step One has AA, CA, CMA, NA meetings at our main property. Sober house clients must also be willing to get a sober home group and a service commitment. All of our staff members are recovered addicts and alcoholics and we are more than willing to teach new sober house clients about how the program works.
All of our staff are recovered addicts and alcoholics. Not only do they take the time to meet the needs of the sober house individual, but they have also all walked through the gates of Step One Inc. feeling lost and alone. They all have one thing in common, though. They have found a new home, new hope, and new sense of purpose here. Our Staff is fully qualified to be of service to others struggling with addiction and alcoholism because they have all fought the same battle you are fighting right now and while at Step One Inc. they have not only found the strength to overcome the power of addiction but also found that you don't have to do it alone ever again.
