About this Recovery Home

ACC Men's Recovery House is a men's recovery residence at 370 Perry Hill Road in Montgomery, Alabama, in Montgomery County. It is run by Absolutions Counseling Center, a Montgomery counseling practice that keeps its offices at 370 and 426 Perry Hill Road, so the housing and the clinical side of the operation share a street.

A Men's Recovery House on Perry Hill Road

Perry Hill Road runs through east Montgomery between the Atlanta Highway and Vaughn Road, in a stretch of the city that is mostly offices, medical practices and residential blocks. It is a workable address for someone rebuilding a routine. Baptist Medical Center East and the Vaughn Road commercial corridor are close, entry-level retail and food service work is concentrated along the Eastern Boulevard, and the M, Montgomery's bus system, covers the east side. Living where the counseling offices are removes the transportation problem for at least one appointment a week, and that is the appointment people miss first.

Counseling and Sober Living Under One Operator

Most recovery residences are housing and nothing else, with clinical care coming from providers somewhere else in the city. This one is attached to a counseling practice. Absolutions Counseling Center staffs licensed professional counselors at the master's level and above, and it treats substance addiction alongside depression, anxiety, grief and loss, marital conflict, gambling and abuse recovery, in person and by video. For a man who needs both a bed and a therapist, having the two under one operator shortens the distance between them.

What Certification Would Add to an Alabama Sober House

Alabama does not license housing-only recovery residences, and no state rule requires a sober house to be certified. The voluntary standard is certification by the Alabama Alliance for Recovery Residences, the state's affiliate of the National Alliance for Recovery Residences, which binds a residence to a code of ethics, to written disclosure of fees and rules before move-in, to a documented relapse and discharge policy, and to an outside complaint process. Thirty-nine Alabama residences currently hold it. Plenty of houses that operate well are not among them, because the standard is voluntary and the list is short. Anyone comparing houses should ask directly what a given residence puts in writing.

Recovery Housing in Montgomery and the River Region

Montgomery is both the county seat and the state capital, and it anchors the four-county River Region alongside Autauga, Elmore and Lowndes. That concentration is why a man leaving treatment in Prattville, Wetumpka or Selma often ends up looking at Montgomery for housing. The state courts, the county courthouse, the Alabama Department of Mental Health, Alabama State University, Trenholm State Community College and the largest employers in central Alabama all sit inside the city, and so do the outpatient providers a resident is likely to be referred to.

Who This Montgomery Sober Living Home Suits

The house is for men who have somewhere to be during the day, or who will find somewhere quickly, and who want the counseling side of recovery close at hand. Anyone who needs medical supervision on site is a poor match, because this is housing with counseling attached. Applications and questions about openings, fees and length of stay go to Absolutions Counseling Center directly.
