On March 16, 1926, Robert H. Goddard fired the first liquid-fueled rocket from Pakachoag Hill, on his aunt Effe Ward’s farm in Auburn. Goddard is remembered in Goddard Memorial Park, which is located downtown near the Auburn Fire Department Headquarters. A model of Goddard’s prototype liquid-fueled rocket and a Polaris missile are on display in the site. Auburn High School has a second version of Goddard’s prototype.
