The seven-mile-long beach is actually divided into three towns and is lined with numerous beachfront condominiums, motels, and bed and breakfasts.

Residents were 14.3 percent under the age of 18; 6.9 percent between the ages of 18 and 24; 24.1 percent between the ages of 25 and 44; 35.7 percent between the ages of 45 and 64; and 18.9 percent over the age of 65. The town had a male-to-female ratio of 47.9 to 52.1.
