Plainfield is 20 miles inland from the southernmost point of Long Island Sound and Block Island Sound (Atlantic Ocean). Plainfield is Windham County’s southernmost city. The Quinebaug River runs through the town and serves as its western boundary. The Quinebaug River is fed by the Moosup River, which flows through the northern part of town. The town is served by area code 860.
