Sober House Certification in Virginia

Virginia Association of Recovery Residences

Certification for sober residences in Virginia is issued by the Virginia Association of Recovery Residences (VARR). Certification from VARR ensures that member sober homes demonstrate compliance with a rigorous set of standards set by NARR. Adherence to these standards is determined through submitting an extensive application, annual onsite inspections conducted by trained VARR personnel, participating in VARR sponsored training, and responding to all reported concerns.

The Virginia Association of Recovery Residences began in 2012. It was formed with the purpose of assessing and advising the recovery support services provided by community-based sober housing in Virginia. It was the first association to implement and maintain a standards system for recovery residence programs within the state.

VARR was created under the National Alliance for Recovery Residences (NARR) a nonprofit organization committed to increasing the availability of structured, high quality, and effective recovery and sober living housing.
