Journey House Recovery operates four recovery residences across Maine, all of which are certified by MARR, the Maine Association of Recovery Residences, and adhere to the evidence-based standards set forward by NARR, the National Alliance of Recovery Residences.

The Journey House is a women’s sober house in Sanford, ME. The Journey House provides low-barrier and low-cost sober living to people seeking recovery in Maine;  provides recovery-oriented, evidence-based, and peer-run housing, as well as peer support and advocacy for individuals with Substance Use Disorder (SUD).

Journey House proudly affirms and supports multiple pathways to recovery.

Journey House Sober Living offers two sober living residences, one in downtown Biddeford for men and one in downtown Sanford for women. They are firmly committed to recovery and to building more recovery-ready communities. All residents are required to dedicate themselves to a strong program of recovery.

Every participant in the Journey House is required to abstain from drugs and alcohol and to interact positively and productively with new housemates and community members. Residents are expected to either be employed, be enrolled in school or volunteer. Residence perform household chores and make every effort to become productive members of their new community. Residents may stay as long as they wish, however during the first 30 days there is a probationary period where residents must be in the house between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM. If they miss curfew, violate house rules or are otherwise disruptive they will be placed on ‘contract’. Residents in need of healthcare, psychiatric care or social services will receive referrals for services upon entry.


Journey House Recovery – Executive Director

Ashley Reny grew up in Maine and after struggling for over 10 years battling substance use disorder, she is now 4 years sober from any mind altering substances. On Ashley’s last day using, she overdosed and almost lost her life. Today she continues to work every day to stay sober and healthy. Ashley is very passionate about helping others who are struggling as well as spending time with her family and two children. She comes to Journey House Recovery with the experience of managing a recovery residence in Portland called Monarch Place.

Justin Clark

York County Director / Sanford Men’s House – Program Manager

Justin oversees JHR’s Sanford Men’s House and has been a person in recovery since April 18, 2017. Justin has been a Certified Recovery Coach since March of 2018. He’s enthusiastic about being of service to people suffering with Substance Use Disorder and is a recovery advocate for the community. “I have completely turned my life around,” says Justin. “And it’s my passion to help people find their path to Recovery.”
