A person in long term recovery since 1990 Mike and his wife started Freedom House of Greenville in 2011 after cleaning out a defunct halfway house whose owner had passed away.
Their intentions were to have a 5-bed recovery house to help men move along in recovery and help a widow attain some much needed rental income.
God had greater plans and in 2014, he and his wife bought the building that now serves 25 men on their journey through recovery. Mike says his favorite part of his job is teaching the 12 steps on the whiteboard and mentoring men in early recovery.
Mike helped found the South Carolina Alliance for Recovery Residences in 2017, a state organization bringing standards, ethics, and accountability to recovery residences in South Carolina.
He also is a state leader with the National Organization Recovery Advocacy Project bringing a much-needed voice to those suffering from substance use disorder and in recovery at a state and national level.
